The eagle is the longest-lived bird in the world, capable of living up to 70 years. By the time it reaches 40, its feathers and claws begin to deteriorate, leaving it unable to hunt. At this point, it faces a critical choice: either wait for death or embrace a rebirth. So it flies to a towering cliff, builds a nest there, and repeatedly strikes its beak against the rock until it breaks off entirely. Once a new beak has grown, it plucks out each of its old feathers and claws one by one, enduring a painful process that leaves it bleeding profusely. Five months later, the eagle is reborn, ready to live another 30 years. In our own lives, there are times when we must make profoundly difficult decisions.
